Literature Text

It began a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.

No wait, I think that’s Star Wars. Meh, maybe I should try being less sarcastic next time. It’s kind of a thing with me, seeing as I don’t really get a lot of visitors. Anyway, where was I? Oh yes, I was telling you about how it all started. How I ended up in this strange situation that you see before you.

Actually, I haven’t even described the scene to you, have I? Well…imagine if you will, a burning ball of nuclear fusion better known to the inhabitants of Earth as the Sun. It’s big, bright and on it’s surface you have yours truly dancing away.

Now I know what you’re thinking. How the heck is she doing this? How is this even possible? Who is she and why is she dancing on the Sun. Well, the answer to all those questions is…complicated. Very complicated. And is probably best told from the beginning. That’s normally the best place to start, isn’t it? From the place where it all began?

Lets start by introducing myself and describing what I look like. I’m a girl, at least at the moment, my appearance varies depending on so many things. I’ve been an elderly woman to a newborn child, male and female, even animal on occasion.

As to WHO I am, well that’s somewhat more complicated, but you can call me…well I suppose I am the…representation of human endeavour. That ever present desire to go beyond the norm and to expand beyond the horizon. To reach for the stars and beyond. Needless to say, it’s complicated.

I was born in the minds of a thousand storytellers, poets, songwriters, inventors, scientists and artists of every kind. Every time someone creates something new, I am there. Sort of. From fanart to the most abstract of ideas, I am there. Every time someone asks why or how, I am there. Every time humanity pushes the boundaries of their world, I am there. No matter how small or big, I am there, a maddening force that pushes and prods beyond all reason and in my wake I leave wonder and joy.

Over time though, I grew up. I became more than just an abstract representation. Going through the lives of millions of different creations gives me a rather unique perspective. I’m more than an abstract inspiration, but not quite a person. I’m not alive in the traditional sense. I don’t really have a body as such, at least, not something you can touch or detect, but I live. At least, that’s what I want to believe.

Sorry, I’m getting distracted.

I like the Sun. It’s beautiful, alive and provides the energy for all life on Earth. Without life, there is no creativity, no drive, nothing. I used to live on Earth, dancing from place to place in the blink of an eye. That’s pretty exhausting though, so now I live (sort of) on the surface of the Sun. I have no body to burn, no physical constraints to hold me to conventional limits. And lets be honest, dancing on the Sun lets me be everywhere without actually having to jump all over the place.

As for the dancing? Well let us just say that I enjoy doing it. It keeps me fit (even though I don’t need it) and keeps me creating.

Does this answer all your questions? Probably not, but my time is limited and my words too few. Let me dance for you and inspire the answers, for I am done with talking once more.

Feel the inspiration as it dances across the pages once more.

This was written for the amarantheans.deviantart.com/jo… contest. My partner nemicrow.deviantart.com/ has uploaded this amazing companion piece to go with it nemicrow.deviantart.com/art/Da….

Here's a link to his earlier WIPS for this as well for those who are interested

Seeing as this is a competition of a bunch of artists coming together to 'Reach for the Stars', this story doesn't just fit with your collab partner but with everyone who joined up ;). Thanks for joining and putting out something so creative!
